Mineral oil discontinued?!

Postby Eddie_6505 » Thu Jun 22, 2017 10:46 pm

Hi All,

Having more fun and games with the hydraulics on my car i.e. all the fluid that should be in it is now forming a lovely puddle underneath the car... Anyway, I'm hoping that I can fix the leak as it looks like it be the reservoir itself leaking. But it looks like the mineral oil has been discontined? Isn't showing up on ebay or the opie oils website where I've got it before. Does anyone know where I can get some? Or what, if anything, is compatible? Can I use the stuff from Halfords? Luckily I still have an empty bottle to use the adaptor.

Thanks in advance!

I would say yes , it appears that LHM is an alternative , i found this http://www.globalautoparts.biz/castrol_HSMO.html , there's also lots of alternative brands but i guess they're all much the same . frankly i don't think these old cars are too fussy , i've read that some people have used regular steering fluid in the rack without fuss but as our cars specify oils that may no longer be current you just have to use a modern equivalent ,

Found some on ebay just now , http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rolls-Royce-B ... Sw-89ZR7J0

Yes the LHM stuff is the same as used in Bentley and Citroen hydraulics .... I was toying with the "idea" of filling the clutch hydraulics with the stuff ... (I have a spare, almost unused bottle, it must go somewhere :?: )

Was this the reservoir, or around the pressure switches?

I had the pressure switches replaced last year so they're fine. I cleaned off around the reservior and can see fluid leaking out from under the cap after driving so I've tightened that up to see if it improves things. Not sure if anyone else has experienced a similar problem?

If it's coming out of the top of the cap, its maybe slightly over filled. And no, there is no sure fire way to know when it's correctly filled, other than it doesn't come out of the cap.
The little sight glass and plunger affair onto, is not really accurate at all.
So it's best guess, followed by mop up with rag/ top up bit by bit.
As long as it's not leaking anywhere else, then you are good to go.
Where did you buy the pressure switches? SNGB?
