Duck Bill Issues

Postby Chris Barney » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:06 pm

My duck bill came off whilst attempting to clean it out and struggling to get it back on.
Simple question what happens if I don’t refit it??

you may ' quackers......'

not a lot really , other than potentially draw in engine fumes into the blower cowl, thats why its shaped like that, so the air is pulled from the grille under the windscreen , its designed as a one way valve

To be honest it’s been off 6 months. Just wanted to check. Thanks both.

you cant smell carbon monoxide though,,,,,

but thats why its there and designed like it is, think about it, every other engine bay to cabin aperture is tightly sealed , the ' duck bill ' design closes up when the heater fans are on to stop engine bay fumes, and in the event of an engine fire stops the cabin filling with smoke so quickly ,

but if removed, drains the plenum really quickly

im not saying its right or wrong, but why it exists and how it works
