4.0 service items and fluids.

Postby mikegamble » Tue Oct 29, 2019 12:26 am

The Daimler is booked in for a service on Thursday to have the braking issue looked at and then given a thorough basic service.
It’s my intention to change the plugs, filters - oil/air/fuel/transmission, check the coolant and if need, replace but is there anything else I should be considering on these vehicles?
Also, what are the recommended oils/lubricants as many of the original spec recommendations have been superseded in some circumstances and finally, are there any ‘golden rules’ for the service items, only use certain spark plugs or certain transmission filters?
I’m aware all cars have their foibles and idiosyncrasies and I don’t expect these cars to be any different!

Don’t forget the Diff oil.
Unless you an invoice to show it’s been renewed. Chances are it’s never been changed.

Transmission fluid- it must be Dexron 2 or Dexron 3 rated.
It should be changed every 30,000 miles really.

Any good quality brands of fluids will do the job.

Coolant should be changed every 2 years, so chances are it’s due.

Brake fluid will almost certainly be due a change.

Have the throttle body inside cleaned out. It will idle better for it.

Get a spare crank sensor and keep it in the car with you.

Make sure the duck bill drain is clear, on the bottom of the wiper motor housing.

And don't forget the fuel filter, it is a regular service item, but often overlooked!

I'd suggest Haynes manual first. You'll find all the service info and much more there ;)

I’ve got one on order but, it’s going into the garage for the first big one - it’s easier on the ramp!!

Please do pardon me, but in my very jaundiced and cynical eye(s) just because an "invoice" has been raised for this, that, or the "other" .. I tend to "do it AGAIN", anyway. ;)

True yes. All the fluid levels and condition should be checked at the very least.

Does anyone have a part number/manufacturer for the transmission filter? My local motor factors can’t find a listing for one?
