Postby Gerard » Mon Jan 04, 2021 2:13 pm

Hello, Can anyone help me here? Is it possibllle to reset a odometer on a XJ40. I have used the Odometer from my XJ40 to build a Aristocat 120 and would like to restart the odometer from 0.

There’s no easy trick or button combination.
Only way would be to hack into the EPROM chip inside the instrument binnacle...

Any suggestions as to how to do that?

I never came across any details how to (re)set that EPROM...

IMHO, your best bets are an XJ40 model specialist like David Marks in Nottingham (http://www.davidmarksgarages.co.uk/specialistservices), or an old-school electronics specialist.
Picture of what I guess is the microchip in question in this topic: https://www.xj40.com/viewtopic.php?f=18 ... 0&start=10

Would be interesting to learn whether they can handle a non-OBD vehicle like the '40!

Ah ! Good point, I'd not thought of that ...................... ;) Still, its only a memory "chip". I suspect easily altered. I can recall a friend selling a particular vehicle onetime. A prospective buyer enquired as to the mileage, they replied, "how many would you like ?" :o

I know several people who are able to alter the mileage!
