Me XJ40.com and the future

Postby j_r » Wed Aug 05, 2020 5:36 pm

Hi All,

Just a brief post to let you know I'm still here.

As some of you know I’ve been ill over the last 2 yrs.

It came out of the blue and to say it wiped me out is an understatement.

Im not ashamed to say it was stress. I never knew it could physically affect a person like it did with me.

Glad to say over the last few weeks I have finally come off my medications and I’m pleased to say I’m feeling great.

Its time for me to take the reins of the good ship XJ40.com but not on my own.
Whilst I was ill there has been a fantastic team looking after the site in my absence and I want this team and myself to be a managing committee (if that’s the right words).

So at the moment Id like to have:

Naki
Rory
Darren Staples
Paul Keating
Henry Smith
Don Jones
SteveMc

As the committee team.
I’m going to try and set up Microsoft Teams meetings each month to discuss whats happening and the best way to move forward.

Its going to take me a while to get back up to speed so please bear with me.

Thanks for all your support

John

Glad to hear you’re doing much better, John!

Turning forum management/maintenance into a group thing sounds like the best way forward, as do your suggested committee members. ;)

Hi John,

Great to hear from you and glad you’re well.

I hadn’t realised you had been away due to ill health, very sorry to hear that but glad you’re on the mend.

As always, I’m happy to help if I can.
Regards, Carl

I have one, John.
I know it sounds simple and is easy to write down from the safety of my keyboard, I also know it would be a serious endeavour: upgrading or migrating the forum platform software.

The current platform seems to require tons of behind-the-scenes work to keep it going, and essential features like picture support (uploading and embedding) and email alerting are not as robust/reliable as I would prefer them to be.

Regardless of the meeting outcomes: I know we’re in good hands with the team and appreciate that you do what you can!

Right then, its been a nice summery month now and would be nice to hear what the solutions to forum problems are going to be(or at least what the issues are), pics of course still don't work...

Do you guys need help with them? We clearly need some comms here. How was teams meeting? Last I've heard was an issue with backup that was eventually resolved, then renaming issue came up. How's that going? Any further help required with that?
