Battening Down The Hatches

Postby naki_k » Sat Feb 08, 2020 8:18 pm

76 MPH winds forecast for here tomorrow. And worse elsewhere on the U.K.
I have already spent most of the day cutting up
a Willow tree that fell over in November (day three on it now). Here’s hoping nothing else comes down tomorrow.

Also trying to make sure no car parts will go flying away.
The joys of winter.....

At least you will have plenty of wood for the open hearth, I have to buy mine in very expensive net bags from a Shell service station.

Willow doesn't have much in the way of BTU's and splitting it is a bit like splitting rope. Good for cricket bats though!

What we have down here is mainly fig, burns well and smells quite nice too.

Just make sure not to get white fig sap on your skin, keep in mind it's sulphuric acid! (ask me how I know ..we have lots of fig here too!)

I hope everyone is surviving ok.
No more trees down yet here.
Only a few more leaks in the house roof instead though ...

I think a lot of us are getting some leaks in our house roofs this winter at some point and this weekend for us in the south looks to be even worse for rain. Not good, i've not known so much rain.

Best regards
Gary.
