I just wonder how a part like that can possibly cost that much to make in the first place! What're they made of... shaved unicorn horns?!?

Thats pretty much the crux of it.
I am sure a certain part of the high quoted cost is coming from the manufacturer too (not just JCP's profit margin).
What the hell to do?
This topic came up with RJ at the Cosford meet.
He also said that some of the "engineering drawings" required to even make the parts, plus the "Tooling", no longer exits even. which makes the whole debate about production costs, null and void! This means that parts will almost certainly never be made again!
I am not sure how many parts this effects, but apparently its an issue effecting many parts.
The topic of door handles came up too, as another example. RJ said they can be made, but the retail cost would be £400 each.
