XJ40 2.88 diff wanted

Postby BiTurbo228 » Tue Mar 24, 2020 12:14 pm

Hi there,

I'm looking for a 2.88 diff in the later XJ40 style. I've scoured the net and they were available in early '88 3.6 cars, and on US models with the non-jurid flanges. Not exactly common though! David Manners lists some that have sold, and there are parts numbers about: JLM1775/28E, JLM1775/28R, JLM1775/28/1.

Other options would be if anyone knows any machining places that have fitted a 2.88 gearset to an XJ40 differential.

Thanks
Simon

Some of our resident parts hoarders might be able to help...
@naki_k: something you can provide perhaps?

In that case: welcome back!

And your nickname suggests you and I have more in common than just '40s...

I am seeing this part number non Jurid. JLM129228

Jurid coupling JLM177528.
Again both indicate USA only.

It could be why I haven’t seen one in the UK before.

Thanks dude :) I think you're right on the USA only. Perhaps Australia too (there was an old listing for 2.88 diffs down under). I've reached out to someone in the States who's checked their parts people, but no dice so it looks like custom fitting is the best option.

Spoken to SimplyPerformance who have done the conversion before, and it's easier if you can provide a '40 diff and a 2.88 LSD core which I've got knocking around :) watch this space!

On an aside, where's the best place to put up a project thread?

Also, hell yeah biturbos. Don't own one myself, but I've always loved the things. My dad's got a 228 and a 430 and they're brilliant cars. Always wanted a SWB early coupe with the later injected engine myself...

Good taste! ;)

It’s soooooo different from my XJ40, my ‘88 SI, but definitely in the same league when it comes to smiles per gallon!

Now that is a very nice car! Count me as dead jealous ;)

Oh, I've spoken to Simply Performance and they said 'yeah sure, we've done the swap a couple of times'. Perfect :) diffs are with them now :)
