Had to get the spanners out tonight. There was a faint rythmic metallic graunching noise from the rear developing over the last few days. Took the wheel off tonight and found this:
The main hub nut had come loose, causing the disc and hub assembly to drift off the drive shaft and rub on the caliper bracket. Could have been a lot worse !
This seems to be the year of loose nuts.
Sadly my 3.2S is on SORN and hasn't been on the road for a year or more. I've got a seemingly unending and ever-growing list of things to do on the house which was supposed to take 6 months but instead is now approaching two years.
Glad you caught the hub nut in time. I had to replace both front ones on my XC90 when I rebuilt its front end earlier this year but luckily they weren't £20 each
