brand new late airbag steering wheel bought

Postby Brake buster » Wed Oct 30, 2019 9:19 pm

its a bit of an OCD thing for me, but i do like to have a brand new steering wheel in my cars, i am very ' light ' on my steering wheels, and typically all my used cars seem to be have driven by the PO with sandpaper gloves ,

saying that, at 108k miles the original steering wheel is in very good condition , just shiny and smooth , rather than full grain and textured matt black leather

so i managed to find a 1994 xj40 airbag version steering wheel brand new in the box, not cheap, but worth it to me

just got to figure out how to take mine apart without blowing my head off my shoulders, lol

You will need to fabricate a tool like this in order to unscrew the "firing pin"

I followed Derek's "how to" and all went perfectly.

thanks guys , i will read and digest thoroughly before commencing

the steering wheel as just arrived in the post, it is al all black leather one, which matches my car ( 3.2s ) but i do like the full and half wood versions as they remind me of my x308 sovereign , but they wouldn't match my rosewood stained interior ,

IIRC, I was able to undo the firing pin by just using a screwdriver that had a blade wide enough to prevent slipping. Norman's device is far more elegant though! ;)

Did anyone ever find out if an earlier "40" steeringwheel could be fitted to an airbag equipped car. I was thinking specifically of a momo xjr swap if it was feasible and a horn button adaption.?????????

As much as I like this idea, I also like an airbag in front of me however outdated it is :)
