major refurbishment imminent

Postby Brake buster » Thu Jul 11, 2019 3:44 pm

smoky startups and down on power and a whine from ' somewhere back there', 105k miles, time for some TLC

my brand new Jaguar supplied cylinder head arrives tomorrow, i have a full brand new drive shaft with all couplings etc, and have just bought a NOS 4.09 non LSD diff , a few more bits and bobs and i will start taking the engine to bits this weekend for a mechanical overhaul ,

going to keep it as simple as possible, bolt off, bolt on , so unless i find something serious i will stay on track , should take me three to four weeks of hobby time

let the fun begin

your not wrong

i wasn't planning on taking off the front timing cover, but was prepared to do so if required, unfortunately , the condition of the upper chain tensioner is so poor it needs replacing, so i will order up all the required dampers and replace them all along with two chains, and then a front crank oil seal , it will add time to the job , but much easier with the head off , and parts will come to around another £200

one bit of good news , the tensioner its self was in good condition, though the seals were hard and flat, but in with the head gasket set are the seals to refurbish the automatic tensioner , so that is now done
