What a bad day today with this car again today, i was of to the air con specialist when i overtake a learner car on a country road just to see
the man in blue standing on the middle of the road and pointing at me where to park ! :x :x so i did ....First thing hi had a go at me for overtaking the leaner car, witch i explained that there's nothing dangerous or reckless that i did ..hi just didn't like the power of that engine it was obvious ....
then hi booked me for not wearing the seat belt , 60 pounds then hi booked me for no mot ! 100 pounds witch i didn't know that it has run out then i had to blow for drugs and alcohol witch i don't consume  then hi let me go and I've been told that i can only take the car back home on the shortest root and take the car to the mot station only if mot has been prebooked so i got the car home got the mot done with in the next 2 hours and im 200 pounds lighter from this after noon alone  what a day !

Hi Boyan,

As I said in my post, because your car is a six cylinder it should have a 16mm rear bar and a 22mm front bar, so I am not surprised it already has a rear bar fitted.

If you decide to fit a heavier duty front bar you should uprate the rear bar as well, otherwise your XJS will want to push the nose wide on corners (understeer). The main reason for removing the rear bar on the V12s in the early 80s was to deliberately make them understeer - considered the 'safer' handling option for a certain country where law-suits against car manufacturers are common - but for most people who like to drive their cars more 'enthusiastically' they like them better balanced.

Best,

If I remember correctly Starbuck, there was only a 16mm rear bar available from Jaguar and that covered all models. I have a fuzzy recollection of an 18mm bar coming to market in the early 90's but where from the Lord only knows?

Hi boyan, I see you mentioned you put the 4.0 aj6 into the 3.6, I’ve just done the same thing, with a getrag 290 too. After feeding the loom through the firewall I’ve noticed that the yellow socket doesn’t marry up to the factory 3.6 one.
Any idea how to connect it all up? FYI I have a xj40 manual ECU. Any help much appreciated, I feel like it’s a small hurdle after what has been a big job for me, yet am totally baffled by electrics...
