Aerial Cleaning

Hello,
A funny thing happened to me this morning in my X300. Just after starting her up early in the morning - cold weather around 2 degrees C or so - I switched on the radio and heard a beeping sound I'd not heard before. I looked down at the radio face and was suprised to see the message "clean aerial" or something similar appearing for a few seconds. I thought that was quite a nice feature and I didn't know my car's radio could do that. To be fair, the aerial does need a good clean so tomorrow I shall take my car's advice and clean the aerial :D
Has anyone else experienced this on their X300, or even XJ40? (Or do you all keep the aerial so clean that your car never needs to tell you to do the deed? ;) )

Ah yes I've been there with this to some extent ... A sticking aerial mast can be quite annoying to someone like me, who suffers greatly at the whim and fancy of "OCD" ... All I'm going to say is resist the temptation to apply humongous amounts of "lubrication" as in doing so you're encouraging all kinds of "detritus" and worse, to become stuck to the sections of aerial, causing even more sticking ..... Eventually I found the best way was to simply polish the metal sections with a good abrasive cleaner (T Cut or similar, believe it or not) and wipe (polish) thoroughly afterwards ... ;)

Thanks for the tip, Tony. That makes a lot of sense.

I have one of those, sends me messages like “clean the pool”, “take out the garbage”, “tidy the garage” and she does it all without an accompanying beep, just that horrifying, spine chilling, terrifying “look”.

Yes I have one of these too .... Although after only a relatively short time together, I now find I can read her like a "book" ... I know when she'd prefer to go out (where to, sometimes as well) .. I know what channel is preferred on the T.V. and like you mention, often / always without a warning "bleep" ;)

I know, I know BB, I've done the lotions, potions and pills not to mention the "special" tools ... I suppose it all came to a "head" a few years ago now at the NEC, when I came across a chap representing one of the BIG valeting companies (the one that sounds like cider) ... They were selling a thing that looked like the frisby thing mum used to put in the twin tub ... It keeps all the gritty particles at the bottom of the bucket .... ( :?: ) HUH :!: no mate, just change the water (in it), regularly. ;)
