Paint is colour matched in theory. Though it's always a bit of a gamble how close it will be.
The inner arches are quite Matt looking, like there's no lacquer on them, so it won't blend perfectly in that sense anyhow.

By the way, bought exactly the same oil kit few weeks ago. Hopefully I can get to it before the end of the year

Upper Chain tensioner O-ring replacement.
This makes it actually work! the first sign of O-ring failure is chain noise on start up, that fades after a few seconds.

Turn the crank get the Dot to dot lined up in the engine position sensor eye glass. This is TDC.
now its safe to remove it.

Note the old O-ring is worn flat. The new O-ring has the normal curved edge.
Using along screw drive to poke the piston out so it doesn't fall out when removing the tensioner.

New gasket fitted but i also used some RTV to make sure.

Good info, I replaced the o-ring on my old x300 too and that fixed the rattle quickly. By the way, your cam cover shows coil damage to all 6 cylinders, when the coils were cracked and firing to the cam cover sides instead of the spark plugs :)
Have you fixed them or replaced or are they still misfiring like this?

Good point. Is that what causes the bubbling paint on the cover then?
Have you bought new coils for yours? I think most used ones are about the same now?
Obviously not £150 each from Jag versions!

Yes the grey marks on the sides of spark plug wells are all due to coils probably cracked. Instead of firing onto the spark plug it fires to the cam cover.

Check for cracks and if the coils behave ok(lift them up a little while car is running and you should hear a click, if you don't the coil is faulty), re melt the plastic with a soldering iron and use some dielectric grease on the coil body.

5 out of 6 coils failed on my x300 few months after I bought it. I have an aftermarket set and two spare coils in the boot :)

Quite likely yes. I know the coils are a bit flaky at this age.
I should just replace them. Usually have a few spares about.

I just checked the coils. They are all good. Non cracked. I am pretty sure I changed them all when I first bought the car and started work on it.

Yeah that looks perfect. I have a vague memory of you mentioning that you replaced them in the past too :)
I don't have a pic but mine would have a hairline crack, one or two right in the middle of that black MADE IN JAPAN sticker.
