97 X300 Sport 4.0 Manual P889 NRW

Postby naki_k » Tue Feb 17, 2015 10:46 pm

I just picked this up tonight.
Not sure what to do with it yet, but i have been keeping my eye out for an X300 for quite a while, but had to be something interesting, ie 4.0 Manual/ 6.0/ XJR etc
So this one came up in Cornwall.
Nice drive up the A30 again in the evening.

Mega miles 245K! :o
Usual raft of the cosmetic issues to attend, which i haven't fully gone over yet.
on the plus side its still MOT'd, drives well, no suspension knocks though the tracking is a bit out.
Plenty of power, good tyres all round, heaters work, two keys and two fobs, big stack of paperwork, 5 previous owner, drivers seat amazing is not ripped or shredded. Must have been swapped out surely, as most sport front seats are wrecked by 100,000 miles.
nothing in the way of leaks underneath.
theres actually leather on the gearknob! (unusual for a manual knob!)

High Idle
ABS light on.
loads of dash lights out
headliner sagging
dimple wheels in bad shape. will likely swap them out
cup holder busted as per. swap for standard version.

radio works, but display gone
of course the clock display is gone too (goes without saying)
dash LCD iffy
cars totally filthy!
am sure loads of other stuff too....

got 28MPG on the way back, with a mix of booting, sorry testing the engine to make sure its ok, it and cruising ;)

so will see how it goes. Good track car?
Give Kieran and Boyan a run for their money

Nice one, looks like an interesting car but you definitely have your work cut out. I don't know where you find the time. Look forward to seeing the progress on this one.

Clearly too many. The max allowed is 255.

Its nice to have a different jag for a change. Similar but different.

Have to say the 300 does seem to handle possibly slightly better than a 40 :o
Ant said this before, and he might be right.
i will inspect the bushes fully to see whats what.
it must have had new bushes by 245,000 miles as it feels reasonably tight!

Not quite as low mileage as RJ's Ex-JDHT 300R manual, but a close by reg. From the same dealer maybe?

I just checked the service book.
The main dealer servicing goes on all the way up to 199,282 miles 2010 :o
First owner Jaguar Cars.

Then from 2010 until last year, i just added up the invoices, and hes spent £4230 :o.
You would not think this to look at the car
I guess thats what it takes to run a 20 year old jag with over 200k on the clock, using garages.
Now i know why we like to DIY it on here

It's got to be all the regular servicing that makes it feel tight , you can't run a car up to that mileage without replacing worn out stuff , you might only have to tidy it up instead of rebuild it for a change ;)

I agree del. No getting away from the fact that money needs to be spent to rack up this kind of mileage. How much more it needs remains to be seen.
is it worth it to keep spending though?
