XJR6 MANUAL UPDATE

Postby xj12-rob » Mon Oct 13, 2008 8:33 pm

the 'stealth bomber' is currently residing at David Marks in Nottingham, 0115 982 2808, the haven worldwide for all things Jaguar, if you are ever in the area call in and see what is in the workshop, this week, two V12 XJS convertibles, an early pre HE xjs, a 7.0 twin supercharged Lister XJS (yes really), another manual XJR, a one off Frura special, plus another JDHT car

David is going to finish the XJR for me, poly bush all the suspension, get to the bottom of the 14.2 MPG that i'm getting, sort out the exhaust, we' probably throw away the centre cats and go with a recognised straight thro' system, if cash permits i'll let him play with the ECU and do a bit of remapping, just to give the car the driveability that he achieves fom his similar machine

More to follow on this when it returns here in November

Does poly bushing the suspension affect the ride of the car and noise / vibration levels as well as sharpening the handling? - Always wondered this, and my car needs doing soon... :?

and get to the bottom of the 14.2 MPG that i'm getting,

Isn't this usually something to with the accelerator on an XJR? ;)

David

I'll report back on the suspension when i get the car back, BUT having driven Dave Marks car I can say that it was very pointy and handled like no other XJR I've driven, the ride was firm but not unduly so, and the noise levels were no different in the short time I had it

The MPG on my car is bad, VERY bad, I was getting 13.3 locally which went to 14.2 on the run from Edinburgh to Nottingham, I was careful rarely hitting 80, and mostly under 70 in 5th on the motorway, i should have seen 20 plus easily, i had to stop to fill up at Wetherby!!

Just thought i'd update the XJR manual project again

It ended up at North East Jaguar in Peterlee Co Durham with a very good friend Neville Anderson, 0191 586 7770, and 07976 839609

Neville replaced the front wishbone bushes, rear trunnion bushes, did a little work on the exhaust, set of new plugs (again) and sorted a couple of other little niggles I just hadn't got the time to do, he had the car two days, I have to say the bill was VERY reasonable, cheers Nev I owe you a pint

On the run back the MPG has crept up to about 14.6, still not good enough, but at least the car drives and rides a whole lot better now

NE JagSpares is also a very good source of 40/300 and in particular 308 spares, log his number folks, Nev comes very highly recommended
