What fluid is it (2)? Coolant!

Postby newyankee » Wed Jul 01, 2020 7:19 am

Happiness with my XJ81 was short lived.

There are no hose connections on the lower right side. I fear a crack on the right lower support of my radiator...

When it's running, it's big fun though:

Interesting: no pics visible through my PC's (Windows 10, google Chrome) web browser.
Pics visible just fine in my iPhone browser.

Thanks guys.

Embedding pics from google photos is a nightmare. I haven't done in in a while, it's different on different bulletin boards. I need to look it up each time.

At least I was successful with giving you something to mock about

I had a second radiator in my parts stock which I put in yesterday. Not a fun job on the V12, because of the extremely tight space when working the lower hydraulic connections for transmission and PAS. And a shower in hot alien blood is always included at no extra charge.

As the replacement radiator probably also originates from 93/94 it will be just a matter of time before it will also be failing.

From my own experience I can tell that operating the XJ81 at 153mph does not necessarily break the radiator! But it might cause your door mirrors jitter  .

I once thought I had a similarly located leak on mine but it was not green fluid but rather clear. I first thought it was coming from the windshield/headlight washer reservoir but I had to find out that was located somewhere else and was still pretty full either :? .

Finally I came to the conclusion that it was either condensed water from AC that was collected somewhere beneath and dripped out on engine-startup or it was caused by some fat dormouse or similar housing in the barn where my Jag is residing that was using it as urinal :o . One day the leakage stopped and never occured again ever since  .
