VCM question

Postby Lightweight » Thu Apr 11, 2019 2:50 am

So for my next dumb question is there a message from the VCM computer if there are no faults. The manual doesn't indicated either way. At the moment if I press the button currently the milage display clears but no message.
Thanks

You are OK - no news is good news! The VCM just displays mileage if there are no issues.

Thanks Larry. Now to start digging into why there is way to much oil in the intake manifold..
With my luck blown rings or valves.

That oil in the intake is pretty normal too, believe it or not!

The way the engine breathes combined with cold weather condensation, moisture gets mixed in with the oil vapor and creates an oily sludge in the intake.

Best to clean it out after the cold weather, annually. Clean the carbon off the throttle butterfly and get the oil muck out of all the breather plumbing at the same time.

agree yes. The sludge seems tone more prevalent in lower mileage XJ40 that do mostly short journeys. Look inside the weather hose off the Cam cover top. It can often be restricted to nearly blocked. Not a pleasant job, but the engine will run better once its cleared out.
