XJ40 Autotune Aristocat

Postby Byemed » Mon May 11, 2020 8:06 am

Hi, I have taken over the build of an Autotune Aristocat (XK120 style kitcar). I have a rolling chassis, ECU and processer unit and wiring loom all from a 93 XJ40. I hope to complete the build using XJ40 but have a question on using a security module. Can I just not fit one, will the ECU still allow the engine to fire up? Is there a work around?

You should be able to use the engine injector Loom/ ECU without the security module, since there is no transponder key on XJ40.
I know a Jaguar specialist near toe who frequently uses the AJ6 3.2 do transplant into other kit cars/ other Jaguars.

It’s AJ16/ X300 onwards where they get more complex restrictive security systems.

Thanks for your help. I am actually using a 3.2 AJ16 engine with AJ6 inlet manifold and loom.

Ok interesting. So you are adding a distributor back instead of the coil packs?
Was there a reason you decided to go this route, rather that a simple straight swap complete AJ6 engine?

I love the "look" of a "classic" distributor ... Maybe Byemed does too .............. ;)

I was advised that X300 ECU is too complex and you get too many spurious fault codes and that the XJ40 ECU would be the better way to go.
