i have indeed lol! ,,, ive been lucky and found one in a nearby breakers yard with good tyres on it (time to haggle)

Remove the carpets along the sill and look in there, front and on the side of the seats. As for power steering leak, best to wipe it all out too before going for mot. My car recently failed its mot on a minor ps leak(topped last summer and wasn't even low).
1997, 4.0 LWB X300 - Unlucky car but still a daily driver.
1988, 3.6S XJS - Never ending restoration project.
1994, 3.2S X300 - Accident damaged, October 2015. Gone!
1994, 3.2S XJ40 - Long gone.

yeah i figured clean up any signs of leaking and tighten up all connections,,, altho i agree that mot is a good thing,,, i do think they are a bit over the top at times,,,

then again i suppose anyone who needs to get their wallet out come mot time thinks this :S

eBay is full of xj40 sets of wheels. The trick is to find some nearby ( so you don't spend the same again on postage). Also make sure the tyres all have good even wear. Many of them are scrubbed on the inside edge

Yep, good idea to wipe up any leaks, as has been said. Will also help you trace the leak (look for the direction of new dribbles)

this was my old car..it was a show car ten yrs ago...
hope you can bring it back to its former glory

the reg number that used to be on yours is now on a mercedes....the last owner deffo has sold it on
