(...) £100 on engine oil and filter (...) my chain dampers at 25 years and 108k miles were end of life (...) BB That is some scarily expensive oil right there... :roll: TBH, that's not a bad wear on these dampers, all things considered, they would last another 25 years before causing more problems....

thinking on it more, the only real ' benefit ' of doing it on the car is the ability to leave the exhaust and intake manifolds in place however a big plus of removing the head is that you will now have a known new head gasket and good bolts on reassembly , and a machine shop refurbished head this wi...

from personal experience of rebuilding my own head i would recommend completely removing the head and SENDING IT TO A MACHINE SHOP FOR A REFRESH AND SETUP, IN WHICH THEY WILL RETURN THE HEAD WITH CORRECTLY SHIMMED VALVES you can ( in theory ) change them on the car, but as you have surmised, each he...

also the grounding strap etc , and the battery terminals are not corroded

they you can confirm the alternator is at fault

glad she is home, and looking great, be careful with car covers until the paint has ' fully ' hardened, it can still be chemically soft and will take on anything that touches the surface, three months usually is a good time frame as for the boot rubbers, , see below https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar...

CATS are catalytic converters? Is that right? Is it possible they fail just like that? The car always had a quite nice burnt petrol smell coming out the exhaust but now it smells definitely ‘burnt’ . Do you think it might have anything to do with me mixing different additives? Naki will be your man...
