Re: Blown head gasket on my XJ81

That's a looooooooot of carbon in the cylinders, must be sootiest XJ40 engine I've seen, looks more like some XJS engines which kept working on 8 or 10 cylinders  I'd definitely look into fuelling and make sure its right after you get this sorted. I assume it wasn't using excessive amounts of ...

Re: Blown head gasket on my XJ81

So, both cylinder heads have been removed. I'll upload some photos later today. The head gaskets were in poor shape on both sides and may have been failing for a while. A lot of corrosion on both heads. The block looks ok. The curved plastic part of the timing chain tensioner was broken into a coupl...

Re: Blown head gasket on my XJ81

Thanks very much for all of your input. Cates Cat, please pass on my appreciation to Starbuck. Kind regards to everyone in these really crazy and challenging times. The Jaguar Clubs of N. America tool loan program currently has the head pulling plate, timing chain tensioner retractor tool and camsha...

Re: Blown head gasket on my XJ81

Thanks for the input katar and naki, I appreciate it. That video is encouraging, Naki. I'd read about the concept before before but hadn't seen one in action. They seem to very effective from my research. I'm probably going to proceed with removing the heads myself and hope it's only a bad gasket an...

Blown head gasket on my XJ81

So some awful news this week, I have a blown head gasket on my v12. Looks like one spot is between cylinders 4 and 5, with coolant gushing out. Coolant also coming out of the left side exhaust tail pipe. Until this happened, it had been running great. Smooth as silk at idle, no issues with losing co...
